Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trekking – Return to Kigali
Early Morning Departure
Your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport at approximately 4:30 AM for the scenic journey to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze District.
Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of Rwanda’s rolling hills, mist-covered valleys, and picturesque countryside, giving you a glimpse of why Rwanda is known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”
Gorilla Trekking Briefing
Upon arrival at the park headquarters in Kinigi, you will attend a briefing by experienced park rangers. The briefing covers trekking regulations, safety guidelines, and gorilla conservation efforts.
You will then be assigned to a gorilla family according to your fitness level and the location of the gorilla groups.
Trekking Through the Rainforest
Your trek begins through dense rainforest, bamboo forests, and volcanic slopes in search of mountain gorillas. Depending on the location of your assigned gorilla family, the trek may take between 1 and 5 hours.
One Hour with the Gorillas
Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one magical hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watch the dominant silverback lead the group, juveniles play among the vegetation, and mothers care for their infants.
Your ranger guide will provide fascinating insights into gorilla behavior, family structures, and the conservation efforts helping protect these endangered primates.
Return to Kigali
After the trek, return to the park headquarters where you will receive your gorilla trekking certificate before enjoying lunch in Musanze.
Later, begin the drive back to Kigali. Depending on your departure schedule, there may be an opportunity to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial or browse a local craft market before being transferred to your hotel or Kigali International Airport.
