Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – City Tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative from Kurikayo Africa Adventures. After a short briefing, your journey in Rwanda begins.
Kigali City Tour Experience
First, you will enjoy a guided Kigali city tour. This tour offers deep insight into Rwanda’s history, culture, and resilience.
Key stops may include the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local craft markets, and the vibrant Nyamirambo neighborhood. In addition, your guide will share powerful stories about Rwanda’s transformation.
After the city tour, you will enjoy lunch in Kigali.
Scenic Drive to Volcanoes National Park
Later, you will begin your journey north toward Volcanoes National Park. The drive takes approximately 2.5 hours.
Along the way, you will enjoy breathtaking views of rolling hills, terraced farmlands, and rural villages. Furthermore, the scenery becomes more dramatic as you approach the Virunga Mountains.
Upon arrival, you will check in at your lodge located near the park. Meanwhile, you can relax and enjoy the cool mountain atmosphere.
Finally, dinner will be served as you prepare for the next day’s adventure.
Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking and Cross-Border Transfer to Uganda
After an early breakfast, you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing.
Golden Monkey Trekking Experience
Afterwards, you will enter the bamboo forest in search of golden monkeys. These endangered primates are unique to the Albertine Rift.
They are known for their golden-orange fur, playful behavior, and fast movement through the trees. The trek usually takes between 1 and 3 hours.
Once located, you will spend one hour observing and photographing them. Moreover, you will enjoy watching their energetic and social behavior.
Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
After the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch. Subsequently, you will begin your cross-border journey into Uganda via the Cyanika border.
As you enter Uganda, the landscape becomes more rugged and forested. In addition, the views of the highlands and valleys are truly spectacular.
Eventually, you will arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
Finally, you will check in at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and rest.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Today is the highlight of your safari.
After breakfast, you will transfer to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers.
Gorilla Trekking Adventure
Afterwards, you will enter the dense rainforest in search of a habituated gorilla family. The trek may take between 2 and 6 hours depending on their movement.
Although the terrain can be challenging, the experience is incredibly rewarding. Along the way, you may see birds, monkeys, and unique plant species.
Gorilla Encounter Experience
Eventually, you will find the gorillas.
Once located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them. During this time, you may see them feeding, grooming, and interacting naturally.
Moreover, the sight of a silverback or a baby gorilla creates a deeply emotional experience.
After the trek, you will return to your lodge.
Optional Cultural Experience
In the afternoon, you may choose to visit the Batwa community. Here, you will learn about their traditional forest life through storytelling, music, and dance.
Finally, enjoy dinner and a peaceful evening in the forest.
Day 4: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi – Canoeing and Relaxation
After breakfast, you will leave Bwindi and drive to Lake Bunyonyi. The journey takes approximately 2–3 hours.
Arrival at Lake Bunyonyi
Lake Bunyonyi is one of Africa’s most beautiful lakes. It is surrounded by steep hills and contains 29 scenic islands.
Upon arrival, you will check in at your lakeside lodge.
Afternoon Relaxation and Activities
Afterwards, you may relax by the lake or enjoy optional activities.
For example, you may take a canoe ride to explore islands such as Punishment Island. In addition, you may visit local Bakiga communities to learn about their culture.
Alternatively, you may simply relax, swim, or enjoy bird watching.
Finally, enjoy dinner with a beautiful sunset over the lake.
Day 5: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park – Evening Game Drive
After breakfast, you will begin your journey to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive takes approximately 5–6 hours.
Scenic Drive Experience
Along the way, you will pass through rural Uganda and see long-horned Ankole cattle grazing in open fields.
Eventually, you will arrive at Lake Mburo National Park.
Evening Game Drive
After check-in and lunch, you will enjoy an evening game drive.
During the drive, you may see zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, and topis. Moreover, the park’s rolling landscapes make wildlife viewing very scenic.
In addition, this is a great time for photography due to the golden sunset light.
Finally, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Walking Safari and Transfer to Entebbe or Kampala
Start your final day with an early morning walking safari.
Guided Walking Safari Experience
Accompanied by an armed ranger, you will explore the savannah on foot. During the walk, you may see zebras, warthogs, and bushbucks.
In addition, you will learn about animal tracks, plants, and bird calls. As a result, this becomes a very educational experience.
After the walk, return to the lodge for breakfast.
Return to Entebbe
Later, you will begin your journey back to Entebbe or Kampala.
Along the way, you will stop at the Uganda Equator for lunch, photos, and souvenir shopping.
Finally, your driver-guide will drop you at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport.
This marks the end of your unforgettable East African safari.
